If you examine the rate of CO2 emissions from electricity generation for each state (data at EIA.org) you can see that the US has 50 different climate problems.
If you look at the relative scale of the CO2 emissions of those 50 different states somethings jump off the page...
Annual CO2 emissions from electricity generation account for about 2 gigatonnes of the US's approximately 6 gigatonnes of CO2 emissions. If every state were to match California's CO2 emission rate (approx. 500 pounds of CO2 emissions per megawatt-hour - 2016) the US could reduce its CO2 emissions by 1 gigatonne per year.
